From the Editor

Well, it is Wednesday afternoon and Mike hasn’t had time to write an editorial.  We have been very busy this week.  The bathroom renovations continue.  The “missing in action” tub for the master bathroom finally showed up this afternoon.  It is upstairs but I am not sure it is in place yet.  Mike says the framework built earlier for the tub doesn’t fit so now the frame is being “renovated” to fit the tub.  The tub still has to be plumbed and electrical run for the whirlpool function.  Then the tile will have to be laid and grouted around the tub.  The hall bath has come along this week.  The vanity is in with the granite top installed and the water lines plumbed.  The tub is in and as well as the tile.  I think they will complete the grout on the tile today.  I believe that bath will definitely be completed by Friday and maybe with luck the master bath might be.

We had to totally empty our office so that meant files, bookcases, desks, etc., had to be packed up.  The computers had to be disassembled while keeping the network working so our laptops, alarm system, security cameras, etc., would continue to work.  That office had been in place without changes for 10 years and unfortunately, we had accumulated more stuff that we should have.  We certainly filled up lots of trash bags and kept the shredder going until it required maintenance (oil).  We also had to move out of the master bedroom so the furniture could be moved to the center of the room for the wall paper to be removed and the walls painted.  The painters did arrive on time Monday morning and will finish on time tomorrow.  We received notice that the new office furniture has shipped so looks like we planned this part about right.  The new window coverings are also ready to be installed.  So if all continues to go as planned this whole project should be done in the next 10 days to 2 weeks—that is if we get everything moved back into the rooms where it belongs.  I never remember our house being in such a state of disarray.

Now if all of this wasn’t enough, Mike decided the “deals” on cell phones over President’s Day were too good to pass up given that his phone wasn’t working very good.  So we both got new phones and we thought the associate at Verizon did a good job transferring all of our information from the old phones to the new phones.  All was good until I started getting text messages from some of our son-in-law’s friends.  Upon checking, I discovered that he had loaded my phone with Mark’s contact list.  We took it back, got his contacts removed and mine loaded.  Then we discovered that I had all his favorites on my phone as well and they couldn’t be removed since his contacts were no longer on the phone.  Long story short, the phone had to be “wiped” and rebuilt.  That time Mike had to do the rebuild.  He has the phone working great now.  Through that process he made the mistake of telling me what a good deal Verizon had on an Android Tablet and I had been wanting one so he brought me one home.  Now he has spent today building that for me.

I will admit that during all of this confusion, I still have found time to watch the Olympics.  I really enjoy the winter Olympics as I like most all of the events.  Right now Curling is on and I really don’t understand that but still listen.  Guess that is just the sports fan I am.

So now you know why Mike hasn’t had time to write an editorial this week.  I hope we have all of this done in time to go to Marietta, GA, to celebrate Parker’s 2nd birthday March 24.  Then we leave about April 4 for Indiana to go to the factory to have some repairs made to the RV.  And hopefully spring is just around the corner so outside work will start up again.  We are definitely ready to be done with this very cold and snowy weather.

Alumni Website

We have renewed the account that Wanda Jackson had set up at the photo sharing website, picturetrail.com for the Roosevelt Alumni:  http://www.picturetrail.com/rooseveltalumni.  She had posted many pictures from past reunions, class panels, and old schools buildings along with write ups about them.  We thought you might find these interesting if you haven’t visited this site in the past.

Cooperton Valley Picture Trail

The “Cooperton Valley” Picture Trail site has been renewed for all to enjoy.  Thanks to Karen (Johnson) Mason for funding this site for the coming year.  This site has many pictures from past Cooperton School reunions.  We hope that you will find these photos interesting if you haven’t visited this site in the past (or if you have and wondered where it went).  Go to http://www.picturetrail.com/coopertonvalley to visit the site.

My Favorite Animal

Our teacher asked what my favorite animal was and I said, “Fried chicken.”

She said I wasn’t funny, but she couldn’t have been right, because everyone else laughed.

My parents told me to always tell the truth.  I did.  Fried chicken is my favorite animal.

I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA.  He said they love animals very much.

I do, too.  Especially chicken, pork and beef.  Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal’s office.  I told him what happened, and he laughed, too.  Then he told me not to do it again.

The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was.  I told her it was chicken.  She asked me why, so I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken.

She sent me back to the principal’s office.  He laughed and told me not to do it again.  I don’t understand.  My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn’t like it when I am.

Today, my teacher asked me to tell her what famous person I admired most.

I told her, “Colonel Sanders.”  Guess where I am now.

From the Email “Bag”

Mike, I was amused at your comments about the Weathermen as that

was my job for 35 years.  I was only on TV when they wanted some

background about some big storm as I worked for the National Weather

Service.  I tell people that I told lies for a living, it keeps them from

asking stupid questions about why we couldn’t do better.  I must have

told good enough lies that they gave me my own station.  When I ran

out of lies I had to retire and I am still getting paid.  One of the best TV

weathermen I have seen was Willard Scott.  He was a graduate of the

Barnum & Bailey clown school and could read a forecast as well as

any of  them and didn’t confuse people with all kind of charts and graphs.

He held that job on National TV for years.

1. Own a gun.
2. Maintain Marksman qualifications .... regularly .
Did you learn anything from this??

The message is - loud and clear - that gun bans and restrictions DO NOT work!
