From the Editor

I feel it necessary (which may please many of you) to move away from the renovations at the May residence in this week’s editorial to a subject that troubles me greatly--the security issues surrounding the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.  I know it’s very late since “the horses are already out of the barn” but, what was the Olympic Committee thinking when they selected this region of Russia for the 2014 games.  This region of Russia was the center of significant militant extremist (terrorist) activity prior to the time there was an Al Qaeda.  In short, these are some “bad dudes” and everybody knew they were entrenched in this region when it was selected as the site of the 2014 Olympics.

Given the fact that “the Olympics are on” should we have significant worries over not only our athletes, but those from other countries and spectators?  I hate to admit this, but given what he has at stake, I am confident that within Putin’s “Ring of Steel” participants and spectators should be safe unless some of the highly discussed “Black Widows” have already made their way into this supposedly safe region.  Anytime you have people willing to sacrifice their own life to harm others, all bets are off.  It is well documented that this terrorist group has proclaimed that they will exert all energy necessary to embarrass Putin during his purported time of glory.  Probably the most dangerous and fertile regions for problems are the highly traveled routes from points entering the country to the protective “Ring of Steel.”  Anything is possible in and around these routes.

As next week nears, I will not be surprised to see some countries pull out and not go.  That would be sad for the athletes and parents, but it would be much sadder if they went and something should happen to harm any of them.  I guess it’s good that I’m not asked to make the decision whether our athletes go or stay home because I would vote that they stay home.  I so hope that I am wrong, but I have a very uneasy feeling that we may see issues during these games.  Again, I not only hope, but pray that I’m wrong and all goes without a hitch.

Thoughts from the Squirrel Lair

Layman’s Ten Commandments

Someone has written these beautiful words for us to read.  Try to understand the deep meaning there.  They are like the Ten Commandments to follow in life all the time.

  1. Prayer is not a “spare wheel” that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a “steering wheel” that directs the right path throughout.

  1. Why is a car’s windshield so large and the rear view mirror so small?  Because our past is not as important as our future.  So, look ahead and move on.

  1. Friendship is like a book.  It takes a short time to burn, but it takes years to write.

  1. All things in life are temporary.  If it’s going well, enjoy it, that won’t last long.  If it’s going badly, don’t worry, that won’t last long either.

  1. Old friends are gold!  New friends are diamonds!  If you get a diamond, don’t forget the gold!  Because to hold a diamond, you always need a base of gold!

  1. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, God smiles from above and says, “Relax, it’s just a bend, not the end!”

  1. When God solves your problems, you have faith in His abilities; when God doesn’t solve your problems, He has faith in your abilities.

  1. A blind person asked St. Anthony, “Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?”  He replied, “Yes, losing your vision!”

  1. When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them; sometime when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.

  1. Worry does not take away tomorrow’s troubles; it takes away today’s peace.

If you really enjoyed this, please pass to others.  It may brighten their day.

Alumni Website

We have renewed the account that Wanda Jackson had set up at the photo sharing website, picturetrail.com for the Roosevelt Alumni:  http://www.picturetrail.com/rooseveltalumni.  She had posted many pictures from past reunions, class panels, and old schools buildings along with write ups about them.  We thought you might find these interesting if you haven’t visited this site in the past.

Cooperton Valley Picture Trail

The “Cooperton Valley” Picture Trail site has been renewed for all to enjoy.  Thanks to Karen (Johnson) Mason for funding this site for the coming year.  This site has many pictures from past Cooperton School reunions.  We hope that you will find these photos interesting if you haven’t visited this site in the past (or if you have and wondered where it went).  Go to http://www.picturetrail.com/coopertonvalley to visit the site.

Depends

The reason baby diapers have brand names such as "Luvs" and "Huggies," while undergarments for old people are called "Depends":

When babies poop in their pants, people are still gonna Luv'em and Hug'em.

When old people poop in their pants, it "Depends" on who's in the will.

There, now, wasn't that simple?

Busted

After nearly 50 years of marriage, a couple was lying in bed one evening, when the wife felt her husband, begin to message her in ways he hadn’t in quite some time.  It almost tickled as his fingers started at her neck, and then began moving down past the small of her back.  He then caressed her shoulders and neck, slowly worked his hand down stopping just over her stomach.  He then proceeded to place his hand on her left inner arm, working down her side, passing gently over her buttock and down her leg to her calf.  Then, he proceeded up her thigh, stopping just at the uppermost portion of her leg.  He continued in the same manner on her right side, then suddenly stopped, rolled over and became silent.

As she had become quite aroused by this caressing, she asked in a loving voice, “Honey that was wonderful.  Why did you stop?”  To which he responded, “I found the remote.”

From the Email “Bag”

January 28, 2014

WOW!  What a day!!!  For those following us on Facebook today, you know it has been long one.  It started about 2:00 a.m. Tuesday with us getting around going to OKC.  We ran into flurries south of Chickasha, roads were good until we go the OU Medical complex, then suddenly the streets were horribly slick.  We arrived at the hospital about 6:00 a.m., Phil went into surgery just after 7:00 a.m.  About every hour and half we received a phone call from the OR nurse.  Phil was doing well and was stable the whole time.  Nine hours later the surgery was finished.  They cut his right side from under the chin area to up around the ear area.  We have before and after photos if anyone wants to see.  The surgeon said he was going to take his time, do it right and make it a good surgery.  The surgeon felt really good about the procedure and believes he got the whole Cancer area and did NOT cut or remove the nerve that controls that side of his face.  That was terrific news as then they did not have to do a nerve graft/transplant to try to give him muscle control again.  He had a little trouble coming out from under the anesthesia, but the operation was very long.  When we last saw and talked to him he had started joking some, tough to understand yet, plenty of drugs in the system for pain, and had mouth/lip movement.  Michele took the day off on Wednesday, sensory overload I think with so many people talking and so many phone going off all day in the small waiting room that stayed full all day.  Kathy and Dayna get the opportunity to work so we came on home.  Dayna had a wreck Monday, she is okay just mad, and needs to get something checked out on her car ASAP.  We had gotten home, unloaded Michele’s car when Dayna said Kathy’s sister had sent a text to say they were in a room about 11:20.

The hope that they got all the Cancer is great, but then so it the fact they did not have to take the facial nerve that would have made him drooler, with lose of taste, lip control and smile control.  He probably would have had to give up preaching too.  Since they did not take that nerve, none of this should apply now, even though they thought they could repair it with a nerve graft/transplant with one of his nerves from behind his ear.

Once again, the power of prayer shows it strength.  Plenty of recovery yet, but looks like things are headed in the right direction while hoping the pathology results come back good.  As always, thanks for any/all prayers and please continue them:  God is great, all the time.

Geary (and yes, I am tired, that is my excuse if this rambles) HOOKEM.’

Food for Thought

Rules

Saul David Alinsky (January 30, 1909 - June 12, 1972) was an American community organizer and writer.  He is generally considered to be the founder of modern community organizing.  He authored the book, “Rules for Radicals”.

In his book, he details the eight 8 levels of control that must be obtained in order to create a social state.

The first is the most important.

1)  Healthcare: Control healthcare and you control the  people.

2)  Poverty: Increase the Poverty level as high as possible.  Poor people are easier to control, and will not fight back as long
as you are providing everything they require to live.

3)  Debt: Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. In this way, taxes must increase, and this will produce more poverty.

4)  Gun Control: Remove the ability for citizens to defend themselves from the Government.  In that way you are able to
create a police state.

5)  Welfare: Take control of every aspect of their lives (Food, Housing, and Income).

6)  Education: Take control of what children read and to what they are taught in school.

7)  Religion: Remove the belief in the God from the Government and schools.

8)  Class Warfare: Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor.  This will cause more discontent, and it will be easier to tax
the wealthy with the support of the poor.

Does any of this sound familiar?

The Obama presidency was not an accident.  It was carefully planned.
