Here Comes Santa Claus
Well, the election
is over and believe me, “Christmas is on the Way!” Relax, this could well be my last political
writing for the year—but don’t hold me to it.
I know you’re going to say, “You are just a sore loser.” Not really, but in my opinion—and you’re
entitled to yours, I firmly believe that if you were on the winning side of the
election and are one of the “makers” rather than the “takers” you too are a
loser and may just not have figured that out yet. The day after President Obama’s re-election,
the Dow Jones Industrials dropped 313 points—a selloff resulting in the worst
one day drop all year. The “Santa Claus”
reference was not original—that came from Rush Limbaugh. As he says, “Who doesn’t like Santa
Claus?” That being in reference to
President Obama giving the “takers” what they want without having to work for
it. I’m not sure where you fit in this
“food chain” but I know I’m one of those paying for it out of my retirement
that I spent 31 years earning. I do
desperately resent that.
You ask, “How could this
happen?” Well, it’s so simple I can’t
believe that I didn’t see it coming.
There are as many or more of the “takers” as there are of the “makers”
and the Obama campaign was successful in getting them ALL registered and out to
the polls to vote on Tuesday! You’ve got
to give them credit for that. How did
they do it? I wouldn’t even consider
discussing my feelings about how they “managed” that event. However, I will say from what we saw in our
18 plus hours working the polls on Tuesday (and I’m sure there are those of you
who did the same) a portion of the mix of people who showed up reflected an
electorate that we had never seen before in previous elections. This group of “outliers” appeared confused,
uncomfortable in their surroundings, and completely clueless as to what was
going on except that they were there to vote for Barack Obama! I even had one voter ask me where he went to
get paid for his vote. Really! It was apparent that this group of people
didn’t just “wander” into the polls on their own. I have no question that this was the first
time many of them had ever voted. They
were the bounty of the massive Obama campaign’s “ground game” locating and
registering previously unregistered voters and seeing that they made it to the
polls on Election Day. They were joined by a large turnout of Latinos and
African Americans--many of whom I believe were also a target of President Obama’s
“get out the vote” campaign. Not
surprisingly, there was also a sprinkling of others who, based on their
demeanor, were obviously there following the direction of the President to
“vote for revenge.” There were also
“True Blue Democrats” and probably a few Republicans that felt compelled to
vote for the President. Although these
last two groups did show up, this election was “so covered” with the
brilliantly detailed and executed “ground game” that the President would have
most likely been elected without their vote.
It is very clear to me that the Obama campaign totally understood that
if you’re a “maker” you’re in the minority and they would take their chances on
getting your vote, while putting their emphasis on the more viable “taker”
segment that just wants “free stuff” allowing them to enjoy Christmas year
round. It worked! It worked so well that Romney supporters were
literally speechless and totally “blown away” in the still of the night with
the outcome of the election!
I’d like to discuss the
final days of the campaign and the approach taken by each of the campaigns—but
I won’t. I’ll leave that to you to
ponder who was “most Presidential” in the waning hours.
Beyond my concerns over the
economy and the President’s belief in “sharing the wealth” what have I lost in
this election--the warm comfortable feeling of again having a “Man of God”
guiding our great nation? I truly hope
I’m wrong about this President and my perception of his plans for dismantling

Tribute to our
Veterans
Sunday
is Veterans Day. We so owe those who
have served in our Armed Forces and the many who gave their lives to protect
our nation and preserve our freedom as well as those who continue to serve in
our Armed Forces. Veterans Day is the
one day each year set aside for us to honor them. We are glad to honor them in this issue of
the Roosevelt News—East Coast Edition.

Absolutely beautiful
tribute….Worth watching!....With reverence!
This video is about a song
called “Angel Flight” and the song is being performed with “effects.” Listen to the words of the pilot and the

Remembering…
This
is another query from Bill Hancock.
Please send us anything you might remember about this.
Who owned the
service station on the southwest corner of Highway 9 at Broadway? This station was across from Dutch Miller's
Texaco.
Here’s what we about the last query about the

Starting
in 1947, George Caroland operated the “Caroland Garage” at the site. It probably was a metal
building. The business was in place off and on through 1964. In the
later stages, I was called the “Caroland Radiator and
Gun Service.” Bob Ferrell also remembers that a dealer sold Kaiser-Frazer
automobiles on that site.
Mike
Gage remembers a small car garage “to the north of whatever business was
there.”
Leo
Scott remembers the Marlers had a garage on the site
were City Hall is today.
Another friend said, “Seems to me right next to the
fire house was a sort of crude set of climbing bars probably made out of extra
pipe. Between Shorty Derrick's station and the alley It
seems as there was an old shed-like building - not in good shape to be a
warehouse of anything like that. Maybe a tin building.
The door s were sliding doors and did not close
completely.”
Another
man thinks it was a Nash dealership. Another said it was “Willy’s and Crosley.”
We
also learned a little more about the “Smith Drug” location at the northwest
corner of Fourth and
That sister station was next door east of the Nash
Hotel, which burned down in September of 1945. Druggist Dennis Boothe
had the old station torn down in 1947 or 1948 and opened the drug store,
reportedly to keep out any other competition—he probably figured Boothe’s, Gaines Drug, Grinnell’s and the old Hobart Drug
gave Hobart plenty of pharmacies. Boothe
installed Troy Smith as manager. Smith’s wife, of course, was
schoolteacher and musician Opal Irene Smith.
We
also learned a little more about that lightning strike in 1962, from Jeff Casida: My grandmother, Eva Casida,
lived at 222 W. 2nd, on the same block as the Coalson's,

Nurse
About Nurses: Somebody asked: “You’re a nurse?? That’s cool.
I wanted to do that when I was a kid.
How much do you make?”
The nurse replied: “HOW MUCH DO I MAKE?” I can make holding your hand seem like the
most important thing in the world when you’re scared. I can make your child breathe when they
stop. I can help your father survive a
heart attack. I can make myself get up
at 5 a.m. to make sure your mother has the medicine she needs to live. I work all day to save the lives of
strangers. I make my family wait for
dinner until I know your family member is taken care of. I make myself skip lunch so that I can make
sure that everything I did for your wife today is charted. I make myself work weekends and holidays
because people don’t just get sick Monday thru Friday. Today, I might save your life. How much do I make? All I know is, I make a difference
This should make one respect
the work of a nurse.

Shampoo Warning!
I don't know WHY I didn't figure this out sooner! I use shampoo in the shower!
When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and printed very
clearly on the shampoo label is this warning,
"FOR EXTRA BODY AND VOLUME."
No wonder I have been gaining weight!
Well! I have gotten rid of that shampoo
and I am going to start showering
with Dawn dish soap instead. Its label
reads,
"DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE."
Food for

We are

for all to consider we will include it here.

the alarm clock has been buzzing since 1979 and we have continued to hit the
snooze button and roll over for a few more minutes of peaceful sleep since
then.

In the news lately we have
seen lots of finger pointing from every high official in government over what
they knew and what they didn’t know. But
if you’ve read the papers and paid a little attention I think you can see
exactly what they knew. You don’t have
to be in the FBI or CIA or on the National Security Council to see the pattern
that has been developing since 1979.
I think we have been in a

our children in years to come.
If you believe in this,
please forward it to as many people as you can especially to the young people
and all those who dozed off in history class and who seem so quick to protest
such a necessary military action. If you don’t believe it, just delete it and go back to sleep.
